Pharmaceutical sales reps work with physicians, hospitals, HMOs, pharmacies, and other medical institutions to keep health-care professionals abreast of and interested in a given company's line of drugs. Some of these jobs require extensive travel; others don't. Drug reps typically have bachelor's degrees, usually in the sciences. Big Pharma companies have huge staffs of reps. Salary range: $35,000 to $80,000 + bonus up to 50% or more of base salary. Pharmacists, physicians, or experienced reps typically command the upper limit of the salary range, and a pharmacy degree often offers a greater potential for advancement. Other college majors typically held by top drug reps are nursing, biology or other science-related degrees.
